Green Bay Squeaks by New Orleans, Record Now 1-0

By Kavin Caruso

Last night after having a big Kid Rock concert, the Green Bay Packers showed no super bowl hangover by beating the Saints 42-34. With former Green Bay Packer quarterback Bart Starr on hand, the Packers made a good impression in front of a national audience. The Packers struck first and never looked back; didn't even let New Orleans tie the game.

On the opening drive, the Packers drove down the field and set up a Greg Jennings 7 yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. Then after the Saints got the ball for the first time, they coughed it up. A completion pass to Marques Colston only to fumble the ball at the Saints 36 yard line. Packers recovered, then ran 6 plays and Aaron Rodgers threw a strike to Jordy Nelson to make it 14-0.

The New Orleans Saints got on the board on their next possession. The New Orleans Saints drove down the field; and Drew Brees threw a 31 yard touchdown pass to Robert Meachum. Saints cut the lead at 14-7.

The Packers then got another touchdown by rookie Randall Cobb. Aaron Rodgers threw a 32 yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb to make it 21-7.

Rookie kickoff returner Randall Cobb had a monster game last night. He even ran a kickoff return touchdown later in the game. The Saints did make things interesting in the 3rd and 4th quarter. New Orleans Saints scored 10 points in the 3rd quarter, one was Devery Henderson 29 yard touchdown pass. In the 4th quarter, Drew Brees threw a 5 yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham.

After Green Bay couldn't move down the field late in the game, Saints came back marching down the field. Drew Brees threw a 23 yard pass to Marques Colston to the Packers 18 yard line. Packers fans were now getting stern and nervous. When the Saints got to the Packers 9 yard line, Drew Brees threw an incomplete pass over the head of Darren Sproles but only to have a defensive pass interference by A.J Hawk.

So the Saints got the ball on the 1 yard line with no time remaining. Drew Brees handed the ball to Mark Ingram and was stopped at the line by the Packers defense. Packers prevailed and the New Orleans Saints are now 0-1.

It was good night for rookie Randall Cobb, he ran for 108 yards for a touchdown and had 35 yards of receiving. But Aaron Rodgers was on top of his game, he had 27/35 completions with 312 yards of passing with 3 touchdowns.

Drew Brees had a good night but was hooked on a lost. He had 32/49 completions with 419 yards of passing with also 3 touchdown passes.

Next week Green Bay plays another NFC South team, the new improved Carolina Panthers, while the Saints at home against another NFC North team, the Chicago Bears.
